The conference was chaired by Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Xuân Thắng, Politburo Member, Director of the Hồ Chí Minh National Academy of Politics, and Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council; Mr. Bùi Thanh Sơn, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Foreign Affairs; Dr. Hoàng Trung Dũng, Member of the Party Central Committee and Editor-in-Chief of the Communist Review; and Dr. Nguyễn Minh Vũ, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee and First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The event attracted more than 250 delegates, including leaders and former leaders, officials, and staff from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and various central agencies; representatives of local authorities and enterprises; as well as a large number of experts and scholars from research institutes and universities across the country. Over 150 outstanding students from the Diplomatic Academy also participated.

Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Xuân Thắng praised the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Communist Review for their initiative in organizing the conference, emphasizing the conference’s proactive and timely approach amid the entire political system’s efforts to concretize the essence of the “New Era.” He stated that in this era, Vietnamese diplomacy must embody a distinct Vietnamese diplomatic style—preserving tradition while ensuring comprehensive and modern development. He underscored its pioneering role alongside national defense and security in fulfilling key and regular tasks. Additionally, he highlighted diplomacy as a bridge between internal and external forces, seizing favorable conditions and external resources to expand development space, create new opportunities, and support the country’s strategic breakthroughs.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bùi Thanh Sơn directed the Ministry to incorporate the discussions from the conference to refine the concept of foreign affairs and diplomacy in the new era. He emphasized the need to accurately identify opportunities and challenges, define specific tasks for Vietnamese foreign affairs and diplomacy to maintain their “critical and regular” role in national strategy, harness the synergistic power of diplomatic pillars and branches, and ensure that Viet Nam aligns with regional and global trends, thereby enhancing its international image.

Editor-in-Chief of the Communist Review Hoàng Trung Dũng commended the significant contributions of Viet Nam’s foreign affairs and diplomacy to national defense and development, as well as to enhancing the country’s global reputation. He noted that the conference was timely in clearly identifying both opportunities and challenges in the new era of national rise.

The conference received nearly 50 papers and discussions from scientists, scholars, leaders of ministries, agencies, localities, businesses, and representatives of Viet Nam’s diplomatic missions abroad. The discussions provided scientific and practical foundations for concretizing Viet Nam’s foreign policy in this new era, forecasting regional and global dynamics, identifying opportunities and challenges for Vietnamese diplomacy, and proposing solutions to further refine the country’s foreign policy. These contributions aim to ensure a peaceful, stable, and sustainable environment for Viet Nam’s rapid and enduring development.

Speaking at the conference, Dr. Nguyễn Hùng Sơn, Acting Director of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, emphasized the significance of hosting the event at the Academy, a leading institution in training generations of Vietnamese diplomats and a key center for diplomatic theory and practice. He noted that the conference provided a valuable opportunity for the Academy’s faculty, researchers, and students to engage in discussions, exchange knowledge, and contribute to Viet Nam’s foreign affairs and diplomacy in this pivotal era.
